Discovered and introduced by Virgil Gamache Farms in Washington State, Amarillo® Brand VGXP01 cv. is an aroma variety that has recently become one of the top 10 varieties utilized by the craft beer industry.

It features relatively high alpha acids along with extremely high levels of myrcene for citrus and grapefruit flavors. As a result, it is an excellent dual purpose variety. Amarillo demonstrates good resistance to downy and powdery mildew.

Originating from the USDA-ARA breeding program, Cascade is an aroma-type cultivar bred in 1956 and released in 1972. It was developed by open pollination of a Fuggle seedling. Cascade is the most popular variety in craft brewing and is known for having a unique floral, spicy and citrus character with balanced bittering potential.

Working great as a late addition, or used in dry hopping; Cascade shines through IPA's and other hoppy beers with a distinct Grapefruit/Citrus aroma and flavour. For a unique adition it can also be added to Ametrican Porters or Barley wines!

Bred in 1974 and released by Washington State University in 1990, Centennial is an aroma-type cultivar that has found favor as one of the most popular varieties in craft brewing. It is often referred to as a super-Cascade (containing nearly double the alpha content) and can be used for bittering purposes. Centennial is a diploid cross between Brewer's Gold and a USDA male.

Featuring a deep bitterness, as well as being accompanied by fruity and floral characteristics, Centennial maintains a beautiful ballance; which suits it perfectly for many different additions.

Taking into consideration Centennial's moderate/high Alpha Acid, it is often used in IPA's and hop-forward Pale Ales. Centennial has had shifts in popularity over its years, but stands as a staple in many craft brews.

Chinook is often described as a "DANK" hop by brewers.

Developed by the USDA breeding program in Washington State and released in 1985 as a high alpha bittering variety, Chinook is a cross between Petham Golding and a USDA male. In recent years, it has found favor as a dual purpose hop in the craft brewing community as a result of its spice and pine aroma characteristics.

Heavy on the resinous pine, and boasting a medium amount of cohumulone, Chinook imparts both "Classic IPA" flavours and a smooth bitterness. This hop shines in dry-hop applications.

Developed by Hop Breeding Company and released in 2007. Citra® Brand HBC 394 features fairly high alpha acids and total oil contents with a low percentage of co-humulone. 

This recent and bold hop caught the craft brewing boom in the mid to late 00's and has developed a strong following. Often suited to making SMASH (Single Malt and Single Hop) brews, due to its solid citrus background and smooth taste. This profile bodes very well indeed for making American Northwest IPA's and Pale Ales, and can compliment Brettanomyces fermented ales well.

Because of its distinctive and intense aromatics, Citra® is best in a late addition or dry hop capacity.

Brewer's often describe the CTZ blend as a mix of "Dank" hops.

Originally selected by Charles Zimmerman for Hopunion, Inc., Columbus is a descendant of Nugget. It is a high alpha variety and is primarily used for bittering purposes. Columbus is often referred to as CTZ, a trio of similar hops including Tomahawk® and Zeus.

 

Citrus collides with pungent spice for an intense late hop contribution.

Bred for high alpha acid content, Columbus, Tomahawk, and Zeus share a parent, namely Nugget. While intended to be a a strong bittering hop, reducing the required amount of hops used for this application, these hops boast STRONG pungent, resin and citrus flavours and aromas. Very oily, and bold, the CTZ blend will excell at adding a huge kick to the bitterness, and aroma of American IPA's, or whichever style it is used for.

Bred in 1983 by the USDA, Crystal is a triploid aroma-type cultivar from Hallertau Mittelfrüh, Cascade, Brewer's Gold and Early Green. It is primarily grown in Oregon and has become increasingly popular among craft brewers due to its versatility in a variety of beer styles.

 

Despite a relatively low yield, Crystal’s character has made it a fairly popular hop. While quite "woodsy" or "green", Crystal also displays spice characteristics of Black Pepper, Nutmeg, and Cinnamon. Due to its low Alpha Acid content, this hop tends to be most suited to flavour and aroma characteristics, however can add a certain "je ne sais quoi" to many styles.

Developed by Hop Breeding Company and released in 2014, Ekuanot™ Brand HBC 366 features pronounced aroma characteristics and extremely high oil content. This variety bursts out of the spring soil in vibrant yellow and gradually matures to a deep green color by fall harvest.

Unusually fruity in its aroma, Ekuanot features; bursts of Melon, Papaya, Orange Peel, Pine and Fresh Peppers.

A great hop for using in Whirlpool or dry-hop stages!
