Brewer's often describe the CTZ blend as a mix of "Dank" hops.
Originally selected by Charles Zimmerman for Hopunion, Inc., Columbus is a descendant of Nugget. It is a high alpha variety and is primarily used for bittering purposes. Columbus is often referred to as CTZ, a trio of similar hops including Tomahawk® and Zeus.
Citrus collides with pungent spice for an intense late hop contribution.
Bred for high alpha acid content, Columbus, Tomahawk, and Zeus share a parent, namely Nugget. While intended to be a a strong bittering hop, reducing the required amount of hops used for this application, these hops boast STRONG pungent, resin and citrus flavours and aromas. Very oily, and bold, the CTZ blend will excell at adding a huge kick to the bitterness, and aroma of American IPA's, or whichever style it is used for.
