The Ball and Keg Liquid Level Indicator is a Patent Pending, revolutionary product that can be used to immediately eliminate the guesswork on any Cornelius style homebrew keg. The Ball and Keg is the first and only device that is designed to accurately and instantly provide continuous liquid level for your keg. It is simple to use, economical, and completely accurate.
- The float is 2" in diameter.
- The indicator bead is 1/4" in diameter and bright orange.
- The float is made of FDA approved plastic.
- This is the same plastic used for many types of food and beverage containers.
- The float can be installed before carbonation and is designed for pressure up to 50 psi.
How it works:
The float contains a magnet that is attracted to the orange steel indictor ball on the outside of the keg wall. The float is meticulously engineered and manufactured to float on the surface of the beverage while providing enough mass to roll smoothly down the inside of the keg as liquid is withdrawn. The magnetic attraction between the float magnet and the orange indicator bead is designed and tested to keep the float in constant contact with the wall of the keg as it rolls down the inside. The following cut away drawing shows how the product is configured while in use.
The Ball and Keg uses magnets to indicate the amount of beer left in your keg. The Ball and Keg Cornelius Keg Level Indicator is very simple to use, however, the design of the current product took almost a full year. Many prototypes and various configurations were tested to produce the current product. It is approved for use with all styles of Cornelius kegs, both pin lock and ball lock.
The product can be used in "keezer" style beer refrigerators. If the "keezer" is tight on space, install the float and indicator outside of the "keezer" and gently move the keg into the unit. Allow enough space for the orange indicator ball to freely move down the keg wall. You should still be able to easily see it from the top of your unit.
How to Use:
Note: Carbonation – the float is designed to operate at force carbonation pressures up to 50 psi so you can install the float before you carbonate the keg.
Step 1
Fill your keg. You can depressurize and open the lid if your keg is already filled or in use. Sanitize the float with your preferred solution and drop into the keg.
Step 2
Look inside the keg to locate the float. Use the orange side of the black disc magnet to draw the float over to the nearest side of the keg.
Step 3
If your keg is not already located in your kegerator or chest freezer, leave the black disc magnet on the keg. Put the lid on your keg and move it into your kegerator or chest freezer. The black disc magnet will securely hold the float inside as you move the keg. Avoid abrupt movements or severe tilting as you move it.
Step 4
Once the keg is in place in your kegerator, insert one of the orange indicator beads between the black disc magnet and the keg as shown below. The bead will be attracted to the keg because the magnet inside the keg is stronger than the black disc magnet.
Step 5
Remove the black disc magnet and the orange bead will remain on the keg. You can move the float sideways around the keg using the black disc magnet so you have the indicator located in the desired location for best viewing.
Sanitizing Tip - Coutesy of Tom
- Fill a container with sanitizing solution of choice.
- After the specified sanitation period required, place supplied magnet under container (works with solo cups, too) and push float down until magnet holds it in place.
- After everything is sanitized, simply pour out the sanitizing solution, tilt container over keg.
- Gently remove magnet allowing it to roll into the keg without being touched.
Carbonate and use your keg as normal. As you pour beers, the orange indicating bead will slowly roll down the outside of the keg and will provide a continuous, accurate indication of the level. When the indicating bead hits the bottom weld on the keg, there will be approximately one beer left.
