The MM-2Pro model upgrades the rollers to 2" diameter heat treated steel, adds the billet aluminum knobs, as well as the 1/2" drive shaft as standard. It is recommended for commercial applications.
The mill consists of 6061 aluminum block frames with two 6" long, and 2" diameter steel rollers riding on SAE 841 oil impregnated bronze bushings. The superior grade of steel (1144 alloy) that is much harder than what is found on most comparable products and the rollers are induction hardened so that they will last 10X as long as comparable products. Commercial brewers have crushed 200,000 lbs +. The drive shaft, and all the axles are integral to the roller rather than screwed into the ends. This makes it fine to drive the mill clockwise, or counter-clockwise. All the axles are 3/8", with minimal freeplay in the bushings, and the larger 1/2" shaft comes standard. The larger 2" diameter rollers allow a finer crush with more minimal husk damage, and milling at smaller gap settings without worry of skipping. This mill also comes with a much larger gap adjustment range of .200", more than double the standard range that should allow you to mill other grains like corn, as well as the conventional grist bills with barley.
One of the knurled steel rollers is driven by a standard 1/2" electric drill (not included) to feed the grain through the adjustable gap and crush the grist. Make sure you have a very robust 1/2" drive corded drill to drive this mill! : ) Both ends of the non-driven roller ride in bushings that are offset mounted in an adjustable knob. The billet knob is held in a fixed position by a black oxide bolt you can loosen to adjust the mill. This system provides an adjustment range of .200". The knobs are milled from solid 6061 aluminum barstock for excellent durability. The flange has two semi-circular slots that allow you to attach the knob positively to the face of the aluminum frame. They have 12 sides for a positive grip.
Heat treated steel mills kept indoors, and used regularly won't have rust issues. Non climate controlled areas, or minimal usage could see some corrosion come up that is easily removed with a wire brush. The 1144 alloy rollers are heat treated to approximately 51-54 Rockwell C hardness. This is what you want for any mill used in a commercial environment. This mill WILL mill corn, and works just fine with rye by itself. It is also designed for barley and wheat malt, and unmalted wheat.
