Bred at the Hop Research Institute in Hüll and released in 1978, Perle is a cross between Northern Brewer and 63/5/27M. Perle is known for adding a traditional, German-like quality to beer.
Some European breweries have claimed that Perle is much like and a good substitute for Hallertau Mittelfruher, whereas some in the US and Japan however have disagreed with that assessment. Perle is said to have a pleasant aroma, elements of mint and pine with a hint of spice.
